Blue Topaz came together from the song concept of taking the perspective of a fan crushing on a beautiful, charismatic songstress.

The central tension of the song can be summed up with the line:

“…don't wanna waste your time, baby I ain't chagin'.”

That line encapsulates the tone of this track to me. Its confident and cool, while also accepting that the connection can't progress beyond this point for the same reason.

A lot of my songs deal in fantasy. In wanting and yearning, or reminiscing. Its something that is both a strength and weakness of mine.

Painting a picture of a perfect fantasy where everything is sexy and wonderful is easy. Learning to accept and be content with reality on its own terms has always been a challenge for me.

The producer Drumdog made the beat for this song.

This was our first track together. He had been sending beats over for a while. I ‘ve recorded a few ideas so several of his beats, but this song came together all at once.

I went out to Music in Focus studio to have it recorded, mixed and mastered.
Jake Rodriguez coached me through the vocals, and acted in the skit within the song.

He recorded the door opening sound and him talking right there in the studio after we recorded vocals! 
I was not going to do the skit at first, but Chico encouraged me.

The incredibly talented Sapphyre Bardot also acted on this track's skit. I sent her maybe a sentence describing the idea and Jake's part of the skit.

Within a couple days she sent over 4 amazing takes! We actually took her giggle from one and spliced it in at the end of the
take we went with.

Dennis filmed the video as always.

We dropped by BCE to shoot the video. 
That space has a lounge, a bar, and full music studio. It was the perfect look!
