Party on the march

What if protests had club records?

The morning after the second No Kings protest, I was on my way for coffee and listening to a Petrofsky beat pack.
When I heard the instrumental for this song, two thoughts immediately came to mind:

1. Why didn't we play more party songs at protest? We're already there, we don't have to be all solemn about it.
2. It would be way more interesting to write a protest club song than the typical “I'm cooler than you” premise.

I love the typical premise, don't get me wrong. But this was more appealing creatively that day.

It had also been about a year since I dropped Divide Et Impera. And lately, I have really been liking the idea of iterative creations.

The first track was a very serious, almost essay style rap song about Trump. I wanted to make the same point again but from a different perspective and approach.

Also, I had seen firsthand how lively crowds got when organizers played any upbeat or dancable music. It changed the whole spirit of the march. I have seen folks bring their own speakers to play music and I just think something about the sight of folks not only marching against you, but dancing and smiling while they do it is a powerful visual.

I like the idea of setting the bar at having a message AND having a compelling song that people actually want to listen to. Something with actual replay value.

Having a message shouldn't be a pass to make boring music. Sometimes you need an essay for sure, but you can also make a banger that delivers a message. I hope I was able to accomplish that here.

With this track, I also want to bring attention to a case happening right in my backyard in which several protestors including local artists had some pretty serious charged levied against them. If you can afford to support their legal fund, I believe everyone deserves a shot at a free and fair trial. You can learn about them here: https://dfwdefendants.noblogs.org/

Of course, I went out to Music in Focus studio to have it recorded, mixed and mastered.
Chico helped produce and added the finishing touches and fx that really made the song what it is.

Dennis shot the video.

Hope you enjoy the track!

Verse 1

Get off your ass
it’s a party on the march

On the mo-ve
with the

Me-xi-cano

La raza sigue fuerte
que les quede bien claro

Manden saludito
para el viejo anaranjado

Ay le va my bailecito
dile que no ando asustado

You can take all ya want
but you can’t take the vibes

Oooh they so mad
cause it’s fun on this side

Oooh they so mad
cause we fine on this side

Ain’t cracked in so long
that they can’t crack a smile

Ha

Impeach the freak
Melt the ICE

Why you scared
Release the files

Impeach the freak
Melt the ICE

Why you scared
Release the files

Release the files

Release the files
Release the files

Hook

Who’s streets
our streets

Groove with me
when you move your feet

Everywhere I go
the party go with me

And we can this right here
every week

Who’s streets
our streets

Groove with me
when you move your feet

Everywhere I go
the party go with me

And we can this right here
every week

Verse 2

Look ma
I’m on TV

All this unity
is angering the elites

Ain’t gotta pay me
cause I hate em’ for the free-free

They brought their big boy guns
just to see me

It’s all vibes out here
no violence

Baby, dancin’ in the streets
ain’t riotin’

I just couldn’t stay home
I’m too stylish

My voice too smooth
to do silence

We’ll let y’all come party
if you play nice

Leave that boy alone
you know he ain’t right

We promise baby
you gon’ have a great time

We got the baddies twerkin’
while they make signs
