Rose Gold started when an old friend sent over some beats him and his collaborator had made.

We used to go to high school and had art class together. And, we used to hang out all the time and try to write songs
after school when I was just getting into poetry more seriously.

He actually came with me to some of the first open mics I did!

Life happened and we both got busy. But, as I started to really put music out he was super supportive,
and I knew I wanted to make a song together whenever we got the chance.

I was so excited when he told me he'd been working on beats and sent the one for Rose Gold over!

I had been listening to a lot of Lil Wayne. I've been slowly working my way through all his albums.
And I wanted to try out some of what I think is his style of wordplay. 

One thing in particular I noticed he does is create a motif out of a single word, cycling through its meanings. 
In writing up this short note about the song, I was curious if this technique had a name.

Its apparently called antanaclasis!

Here is an example of it from this song:

“No stress
Don’t grind your teeth

I grind in my sleep
Don’t grind coffee beans

When I don’t call
She ask where I been

I was countin beans

On a beanstalk
Doin giant things”

As clever as it is, it also has the added benefit of being quicker to write if you can think of multiple meanings or 
ways to play with common sayings that use the word.

I went out to Music in Focus studio to have it recorded, mixed and mastered.
I felt like the beat deserved a more laid back, relaxed type of vocal as opposed to something more aggressive or emotional.

We filmed it at Blackbird warehouse.

I thought it would be fun to have some Rose Gold jewelry for this shoot to go with the theme of the song.

For other videos with simple silver chains, I have just gotten the real thing;
And I might go buy some real rose gold pieces one day. 

But, I couldn't justify the expense for a single video lol.
