Closure
Closure is a song I wrote about a relationship that wasn't the healthiest, but was addicting nonetheless.
When the idea came to me, I has just missed a call from them after we had stopped speaking a while back and they were trying to make contact again. I forget if they mentioned closure on that specific occasion or if it was another time.
But, during my workout that day I worked on the idea for the hook between sets. It originally started off as a more fast tempo, party type song. I have always wanted to write a song like that. One that you could party to, and that sounded really upbeat, but was about a dark topic when you really listened to the lyrics. Think of Can't Feel My Face, for example.
It started off as only lyrics, and I wrote it in its entirety before getting music written for it. The whole process start to finish was a year or two.
I kept recording voice notes of the lyrics and each time I did a take, I was trending more and more to a slower, more melancholy song.
Once I had the feel down, I brought it to Dennis, and Ladi who made the music, and I asked them (because I know zero about music theory to be any more helpful) to make it sound dark and sexy, to capture the sort of emotional cocktail I was trying to convey.
In the end, we landed on a sound a lot more like All To You, which I think is a good vibe for this song.
I sang the hook in an early scratch demo of the track. Ladi and Dennis helped me further flesh it out, and Sapphyre Bardot stepped in to sing on the final recording it and give it some emotion.
I have worked with her a few times in the past and she is such an amazing collaborator ! She has done voice acting for skits in the AndPoetry project as well as the song Voicemail.
I went out to Papertone studio to get this recorded. I had it mixed - and got Aaron to play session bass for it. I had it mastered at Music in Focus studio.
