Monstrosity
Monstrosity started when a producer named Quiet sent me some beat packs.
I had emails from him sitting in my inbox for a while before I could find time to listen.
But, when I did, one beat in particular stood out to me right away.
So much so, I asked him to sell it to me before I had written anything to it!
Which was a first for me.
I can't remember now if I wrote the first lines right before or right after, but I normally write lyrics before trying to buy whatever beat it is I was writing to, since I want time to sit with the song and know I am going to release it first.
But, for this one, I knew I had to have it.
The instrumental itself sort of informed the main vibe and concepts behind the song.
I wanted it to be about being a beast.
Kind of in a motivational, gym rap song kind of way.
Around this time, I had also recently started buying a couple of nicer outfits.
Nothing too crazy, one or two business casual pieces.
I had interviewed at an office for the first time for a corporate gig
and couldn't shake the feeling of being a “monster in a suit”
I felt like such a misfit in the environment I found myself in.
Almost like I was some wild beast masquerading as a professional.
I don't claim to have had some really rough upbringing or anything like that.
But, everything is relative. And I felt like the beast in the room I was in.
Those feelings are scattered throughout the track, but the motif is established with:
"There’s a monster in a suit
Nightmare in the office
Chupacabra on the move
Werewolf in the conference
Room
A nuisance on the loose
And it’s no use
In gettin blue
If I see red
When I see you"
I also was thinking a lot about how people who have had rougher period in their early life
successfully, or not so successfully manage to outgrow or evolve their own identity.
Mike Tyson in my eyes is a great example of that.
And as the concept of the song evolved more into its final state,
it helped the mood of the song to include clips of his interviews and fights.
The song became an outward show of bravado, with a storm brewing under the surface.
Kind of how many monsters are just as scared/tormented internally as those who they haunt.
I went out to Music in Focus studio to have it recorded, mixed and mastered.
As always, Dennis filmed the performance video. We filmed it at Prophecy film studio.
It was fun to throw on some costumes for this one.
After recording videos for 11 other songs this year, I eventually had to start trying any idea lol.
I did the Joker makeup myself at the last minute!
It was fortunate timing that the new Joker sequel was announced to come out around the time of this song.
Although, I hope this song has a better reception than the movie did.
Hope you enjoy the track!

Lyrics
Verse 1
There’s a monster in a suit
Nightmare in the office
Chupacabra on the move
Werewolf in the conference
Room
A nuisance on the loose
And it’s no use
In gettin blue
If I see red
When I see you
I see dead people
No games
No redemption
From my rage
No protection
From the pain
I’m bringin
To your face
In the mud
Every day I’m gettin it
Life’s a bitch
Another day
Your boy still hittin it
Thinkin bout the money man
Mindin my business
They ain’t really hungry
I got the worst intentions
Straight to the point baby
Don’t be pedantic
With me
Say what you mean
Don’t argue semantics
With me
I got the advantage
Sitting on top of a casket
Dracula
Goin bat-shit
When I win
The agreement is tacit
For all you thinkin I’m braggin
I am
Beat in my ear all day like a naggin wife
I have
The volume up
To tune out bad advice
Verse 2
Showin my teeth on the beat
Ooh
Takin my pick of the freaks
Ooh
I like em with meat
Thighs lookin sheesh
Come on and creep with a beast
Ooh
Feelin this anger
That’s bubblin up
The properly prodigal
Prodigious son
Pompous
Possibly posturin some
Puttin these points up
Is costin me some
Peace of mind
I push
I push
Until I hit
A steep decline
Death kisses my neck
How can
I sleep
when I’m
Uneasy
I’m
Feelin like I’m runnin
Out of time
Peek behind the mask
You’ll see that I’m
Barely stitched together
Frankenstein’s
Monster
Don’t be astonished
By the ruckus
I’m a haunted
Motherfucker
Hotter
Than the hottest
Texas Summer motherfucker
Do you follow
Do you need the phonics motherfucker
Stay your ass away
From sleepy hollow motherfucker
Stay away from me
Way from me
Stay away from me
Stay away
Verse 3
Fallen from grace
What a disgrace
Grace the stage
Goodness grace
Back to her place
Legs extended like grace
Say my grace
Take my time
Plus the grace
Period
I’m a villain
I’m nefarious
Why so serious
All it take is
One bad day
Hello
I am
That experience
How many miles ahead
Look up myriad
In your Merriam
Puppet-Tyrannist
Its
Child’s play
On a mild day
I never go
Out of style bae
It’s my way
Or you road kill
On the highway
Road to riches
I don’t drive safe
My girl photogenic
With a wide frame
Dead house
On the red sea
I get goosebumps
In the black mirror
Crept out
Stephen King
He threw up
Came back weirder
I’m it now
You’re dead meat
And loose crumbs
If you pass nearer
Get out
Jordan P
In a stupor
Like bad fever
I am force majeure
Leave your fuckin court adjourned
Lights out
Storm has surged
T-t-try and from some words
Stay away from me
Way from me
Stay away from me
Stay away
